Our recent week long trip to Haiti

We took a trip to Haiti October 22-29, 2008 to get a better idea of what life will be like serving with Mountain Top Ministries.  It was very helpful in learning more about both ministry and everyday life.  We stayed with Willem & Beth (the couple we’ll be working with) and their boys, Stephen & David, and we enjoyed our time with them.  Here are a few pictures to share about our time – also check out MTM’s blog (see link on the left of this page) to see more pics from the medical team.

Taken from Willem & Beth’s house across the valley - The church (in the center of the picture, with the steeple), school, and clinic at Gramothe.  The clinic is the building down to the left of the church.  School classrooms are behind the church, and also high school classrooms and library built into the hill on the far side of the clinic (not visible in the picture).

We got to see a medical mission team in action as they had one more day at the clinic when we arrived.  The Haitians waited outside for their turn.  Karen is at work counting pills – we weren’t able to do a lot more than observe with no medical training, but we can count!

Some of the preschoolers; the clinic building is in the background.

A peek into a high school class; an empty classroom; and the library room – this is not currently being used but is one of Scott’s intended projects while we’re in Haiti.

Lunch (usually rice and beans) ensures the school children are getting at least one good meal that day.

Our new home!  We will be renting this 3-bedroom house for our time there.  We certainly didn’t expect a spacious home in Haiti, but we enjoyed getting to see it and are thankful for the blessing.   Feel free to come visit!
