Classes begin again at the school in Gramothe (the main village in which Mountain Top Ministries presently works) on Monday the 5th, but we began working with some students in English yesterday morning. They know more English than we know Creole, but not enough to communicate very fluently. Stephen, one of the Charles’ sons, went with us and translated some for us. Today we were on our own, along with our English-Creole book which has a large number of English to Creole words and vice versa.
Teaching them English helps us to learn a little more Creole along the way, which is good. They were amused by my (Karen) trying to say a proper Creole “r”. The best way I can explain it is somewhere between an English “r” and a Spanish rolled “r”…
